The ancient temple of Lord Kodanda Ramaswamy in Chittoor is being spruced up for the 11-day Sri Rama Navami brahmotsavams from Monday.
The festival will commence with Maha Snapana Tirumanjanam in the evening. The dwajarohanam (hoisting of celestial flag) will take place on Tuesday evening. During the festival, the processional deity of Lord Rama will be taken round the temple streets on various celestial vehicles, including Garuda, Hanumantha and Hamsa.
On April 14, Rathotsavam will be performed. On April 16, the ritual of Bikshatana will be taken up on the streets, symbolising the travails of the Lord during exile. The festival will come to a close on April 18 with Dwajavarohanam. The endowments department has arranged cultural activities and spiritual discourses on the temple premises.
