Chandranna Bima Yojana: Two crore unorganised workers stand to gain

Labour Commissioner D. Varaprasad has said that AP Smart Pulse Survey will help in identifying labour in unorganised sector and providing insurance to them under Chandranna Bima Scheme. He said that through Pulse Survey they have identified 62 lakh labour in unorganised sector till now out of two crore people whose complete family data was collected.

Mr. Varaprasad conducted review meeting with the officers of the Labour Department of coastal districts here on Wednesday.

He said that insurance was going to be provided to about two crore workers from unorganised sector in the State under Chandranna Bima scheme and in case of unfortunate event, the members of deceased family will get an insurance amount of Rs. 5 lakh for accidental death and the family of a person who suffers complete disability will also get Rs. 5 lakh.

He further said that a person will get Rs. 3.62 lakh for partial disability and Rs. 30,000 for normal death. He maintained that the children of labourers who are pursuing Classes IX and X, Intermediate and IIT will get scholarship of Rs. 1,200 per annum. He said that workers involved in mud work, brick making, sand quarry, road construction works, borewells and mason will be termed as building construction workers and added that those who worked for 50 days in NREGS scheme will be also termed as construction workers.

He informed that the premium to the tune of Rs.134 crore will be borne by the State government on behalf of the workers and the beneficiaries have to bear only Rs.15 towards service charge.

The Labour Commissioner said that the centralised online registration system has been introduced in the Labour Department in the State which is the first in the country.

He said that a special format has been placed on the website of the department in order to conduct departmental inspections.

Joint Labour Commissioner B. Ajay, Additional Commissioner Y. Suryaprakasa Rao and Deputy Labour Commissioner Y. Krishna Reddy were present.
