The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested two persons from Lucknow in connection with the tampering of the results of the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) in October and November 2012. The arrested are Muhammad Aslam and Zegam Abbas, employees of Career Guardian Company, Lucknow. CBI officials said that the accused had collected money ranging between Rs.2 lakh to Rs. 15 lakh from nearly 80 students for increasing their scores in the CAT examination.

Muhammad Aslam had acted as the mediator between Career Guardian and Muhammad Aafaque, data entry operator who tampered the score list when it was published on the IIM website. Muhammad Aafaque, who was arrested by the CBI earlier, is the kingpin of the racket that manipulated the marks of about 80 candidates who appeared for the exam. Both Muhammad Aslam and Zegam Abbas were absconding since the tampering of results came to light in 2013.
