The physical fitness test on the first day of the Army Recruitment Rally on Friday for Soldier General Duty has been put off due to the heavy rain overnight.

The running track at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Stadium turned slushy.

Collector Vivek Yadav said the recruitment rally would take place after the officials restored the track to its normal condition and added that it would probably begin in the next two days.

He discussed with Army officials, Joint Collector-2 K. Nageswara Rao, DSDO Surya Rao and SETVIZ CEO Satyanarayana in the evening and said a decision on the exact date would be arrived at after inspecting the track along with Army officials on Saturday. “The question of cancelling the recruitment rally does not arise. It has been put off temporarily,” he added.

Meanwhile, in the absence of shelters at the venue, some 6,000 aspirants who reached there at 12.30 am were fully drenched. The Army officers even began conducting the physical fitness test and verification of certificates from 3 am but the process was later suspended.
