The State government has chalked out plans to convert all anganwadi centres as pre-schools. There are 3,128 centres in urban areas with a capacity of 90,000 students which will be integrated into 1,026 pre schools.
The government is contemplating imparting education in English medium without compromising on the importance of Telugu.
The government will spend about ₹2.40 lakh on each school for upgradation and renovation. LED TVs, play items, chairs, benches and attractive paintings will be provided in each classroom. The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) and the Women and Child Welfare departments will run them. Children in the age group of 3 to 5 will be admitted into nursery, LKG and UKG.
The anganwadi teachers will be trained in teaching in English. A special focus will be on teaching rhymes to the students. Text books and action plan books will be distributed by the MAUD department.
The government has plans to utilise the available government buildings to provide accommodation to the pre-schools. While 803 anganwadi centres have buildings to run the pre-schools, the government will have to provide accommodation to the rest. Furniture and other equipment has already been provided in 610 pre-school centres. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, addressing a teleconference with anganwadi staff and officials on Wednesday, suggested the officials to connect the pre-schools with the fiber grid project. He also wanted them to take utmost care of the health of the students. He released books prepared for the nursery, LKG and UKG students. Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana was present.
