Heavy rush of passengers expected from the districts back to Hyderabad after Sankranti

The APSRTC and Railways officials on Wednesday said that arrangements are in place to meet the anticipated heavy rush of passengers travelling from the districts to Hyderabad after Sankranti festival.

RTC officials said heavy demand for buses is anticipated on Thursday, January 16 and Sunday, January 19, when most passengers are expected to travel back to the city.

In the last one week, close to 6.5 lakh passengers have travelled from Hyderabad to other districts on RTC buses.

“In the return direction, we expect more passengers. In addition to the 1,200 regular buses, we are operating 5,000 additional buses everyday and are confident to meet of meeting the demand,” said Executive Director (Greater Hyderabad), RTC, A. Koteswara Rao.

Bangalore services

Interestingly, while passengers travel from Hyderabad to the districts during Sankranti, a large number travels to Bangalore back in the same period.

To be able to meet the passenger rush on the route, RTC officials said that 100 additional buses have been pressed into service.

“We are expecting roughly 40,000 passengers to travel between Hyderabad and Bangalore during Sankranti festival in RTC buses. Every year, there is a heavy rush of passengers in the section during Sankranti,” the RTC official said.
