ACB traps ‘crorepati’ attender in Transport Department

Assets worth about ₹80 crore unearthed during a raid on his premises

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Tuesday unearthed huge quantity of properties reportedly amassed illegally from the house of K. Narasimha Reddy, an attender in the Transport Department.

Expensive jewellery and documents of many movable and immovable properties were seized.

Long service

Mr. Reddy put in 34 years of service in the Nellore Deputy Transport Commissioner’s (DTCs) Office.

Mr. Reddy (55) of Nellore district joined the government service as attender in 1984 in the DTC office and is working in the same position and in the same place till date. He did not take any promotion.

The documents unearthed included 18 house plots, 50.36 acres of agriculture land, a G+2 pent house, ₹7.70 lakhs, two kg gold jewellery, seven kg silver ornaments, ₹20 lakh bank balance, LIC deposits for ₹1 crore, LIC policies for ₹10 lakh, household articles worth ₹5 lakh, said ACB Director General R.P. Thakur.

The plots and the agriculture land were registered in the names of Mr. Reddy, wife K. Hari Priya and aunt P. Narayanamma. The Sub-Registrar value of the seized properties would be around ₹80 crore and all the assets were located in Nellore district, particularly at Gundlapalem village, Nellore Rural mandal, and in Nellore Town.

“We are investigating the case. The attender is being arrested and would be produced before the Special Court for ACB cases,” Mr. Thakur said.
