A team from the rural police intercepted an ambulance near Munchingput in Visakhapatnam Agency on Tuesday and recovered abut 60 kg ganja and ₹4.8 lakh in cash. The police team also arrested three persons.

The arrested were identified as Sanjay Kumar Chaturvedi and Abdul Khan from Chhattisgarh and G. Somnath from Odisha.

This is the second time in this year when the police had intercepted an ambulance that was being used for smuggling ganja from the Agency areas of Visakhapatnam.

According to Paderu DSP Mahendra Mathe, the vehicle was moving towards Anakapalle and was intercepted near Munchingput.

“We had intelligence inputs that an ambulance was being used to smuggle the hemp and based on intelligence inputs we intercepted the ambulance. We are examining if this ambulance was earlier caught in a ganja smuggling case,” he said.
