Thirty students were injured when a private bus plunged into a rivulet at Pedda Allavalapadu in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Thursday.

P.C. Palli Sub-Inspector B. Ramakrishna said 17 of the students were taken to hospitals in Ongole, including the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

The accident occurred after the bus hit a culvert, he said, adding that 78 students from a school in Karedu village in Ulavapadu mandal were returning after an excursion to tourist places in the neighbouring Kurnool district.

Only on Tuesday last, 11 people were killed and 25 suffered injuries when a private bus fell into a canal in the early hours at Mullapadu village on the national highway in Krishna district, also of the coastal Andhra region.
