13 feared kidnapped by Maoists

Published - December 31, 2014 12:01 am IST - RAMPACHODAVARAM (East Godavari dt.):

Thirteen tribal people of Pega village in Chintur mandal, which was recently merged in East Godavari district from Telangana State, were feared kidnapped by members of the CPI Maoist Andhra-Orissa Border (AOB) committee.

The incident, the first major one involving the Maoists post-merger of mandals of Khammam district into Godavari districts, took place on Monday night and this was confirmed by Rampachodavaram Assistant SP Vijaya Rao.

The alleged abduction led to tension on the borders of Rampachodavaram division even as police intensified combing operations.

According to the ASP, Pega is one of the border villages to Chhattisgarh and there was rivalry between Koya and Guttikoya tribes.
