BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Amit Shah may deliver his maiden speech in the Upper House next week on the Motion of Thanks to the President for his address to both Houses of Parliament.

Mr. Shah was supposed to speak in the last session but due to frequent adjournments his turn did not arrive.

“There are going to be two big debates in this session, one is the Motion of the Thanks to the President for his address to both Houses, and the other is the debate on the Finance Bill that has to be passed before Parliament goes into recess. Of the two, he is likely to speak on the former as it has a broader canvass and looks at every aspect of governance and lends itself to a more political sweep,” said a senior source in the party.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Friday after obituary references on the death of sitting MP from Maharashtra, Chintan Wanaga, on Tuesday.

On Saturday, another sitting BJP MP, Hukum Singh from Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, passed away, which may lead to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha on Monday.

“It is not sure just when the debate will be taken up, therefore, and the exact date of Mr. Shah’s speech hasn’t been fixed,” said the source.
