AG, Law Secretary to appear before PAC

Law Secretary D.R. Meena and Attorney General Goolam Vahanvati have been asked to appear on April 15 before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chaired by Murli Manohar Joshi on the 2G spectrum scandal.

The agenda of the meeting is recent developments in the telecom sector, including allocation of 2G and 3G spectrum.

Mr. Vahanvati's evidence could be crucial as he and Mr. Meena could be questioned on the Law Ministry's approval or otherwise for the procedure that was adopted for giving away licences and 2G spectrum. The Director of Central Bureau of Investigation A.P. Singh, who has already appeared before the PAC earlier, has once again been asked to depose before it.

This appearance would be after the CBI has filed a charge sheet against some of the main accused.

The PAC has asked the Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar and the principal Secretary to the Prime Minister T.K.A. Nair to give evidence, presumably on the role of the Prime Minister's Office in the 2G spectrum affair on April 16.
