Union Minister for Law and Justice M. Veerappa Moily said on Monday that the Aarushi Talwar murder case was pending before the Central Bureau of Investigation court in New Delhi and the agency had only given its report to the court, which might reject it.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Moily, who visited the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, said the girl's parents had also petitioned the court.
He clarified that he had only requested the CBI Director to have a relook at the case because of its brutal nature. Someone had committed the murder and the culprit had to be found. “I did not give any direction to him.”
Asked about his recent meeting with Governor H.R. Bhardwaj, Mr. Moily said he met the Governor as any other Central Minister. Moreover, Mr. Bhardwaj had also served as the Union Law Minister.
He hoped that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would have mended fences with the Governor now. He and his Ministers should maintain dignity and decorum in their dealings with such a high constitutional functionary, Mr. Moily said.
Jaitley's allegation
On the allegation by the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, that Mr. Bhardwaj had a hand in helping Dubai-based businessman Win Chadha in the Bofors case when he was in the Union Cabinet, Mr. Moily said one had to take this with a pinch of salt. Bofors ghost was still haunting Mr. Jaitley. Such statements were unjustifiable, he said.
The statement by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee that he would have advised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had he consulted him, against appearing before the Public Accounts Committee of the Lok Sabha in the 2G spectrum case, had not created any rift in either the government or the Congress, he said.
