CBSE Class 10, 12 exams to start on March 9

Published - January 10, 2017 01:43 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations by a week to March 9, in view of the Assembly polls in five States. The Class 10 exams will end on April 10 and the Class 12 exams on April 29.

“The annual examinations of Class X and XII will be conducted from 9th March 2017, in view of the Assembly elections in Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh,” the CBSE said in a release on Monday. “The board has given careful consideration to the situation before postponing the exams, which will allow the students to get more time for preparations and ensure uninterrupted sequence of the examinations,” it said. The release said: “The board has made all efforts to maintain a reasonable time gap between the major papers and ensured that the students appearing for the Joint Engineering Exam and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) complete the CBSE examinations ahead of these entrance exams.”

The release added that the declaration of the results would be timely, as the adoption of several IT initiatives would help in quick result-processing.

The results are generally declared before the end of May.

The number of students taking the Class 10 examinations this year will be 16.67 lakh, up from 14.91 lakh a year ago.

Students writing the Class 12 examinations this year number 10.98 lakh, as against 10.65 lakh last year.
