Death toll rises to 22 in Moscow metro accident

The death toll climbed to 22 following a derailment in the Moscow subway, a news report said on Wednesday.

A passenger died of his injuries after the accident on Tuesday, the Interfax news agency reported, citing authorities.

More than 120 people were still being treated in local hospitals, the report said.

It was the worst accident in the history of the Moscow Metro.

The underground train derailed while travelling at 70 kilometres per hour and packed with rush-hour commuters, Interfax reported.

The cause of the derailment was not yet known, the report said.
