Koirala seeks cooperation of parties in quake relief work

PM Sushil Koirala sought cooperation of political parties and people in delivering relief and post-earthquake rehabilitation plan of the government.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Tuesday sought cooperation of political parties and people in delivering relief and post-earthquake rehabilitation plan of the government.

“The country can overcome this tragedy with the cooperation between the government, political parties and the people,” PM Koirala said at the first meeting of the high-level National Reconstruction Advisory Committee at his official residence at Baluwatar. “We need our mutual experience and unity to get this done,” he added

The committee was formed as per the direction of the Parliament, following the adoption of a resolution motion on rehabilitation and reconstruction after the earthquake. The committee headed by the Prime Minister would suggest the government on relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction measures for the earthquake victims.

Inaugural meeting The inaugural meeting was attended by top leaders of the political parties, including CPN (Unified Marxist-Leninist) Chairman K. P. Oli and the Chairman of UCPN (Maoist), Pushpa Kamal Dahal a.k.a. Prachanda.

Even as the PM reiterated that the government will take action against those misusing relief supplies and fund, more reports of embezzlement and mismanagement surfaced.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the April 25 earthquake and May 12 aftershock climbed over 8,600 and the number of injured came close to 22,000.
