A magnitude 6 earthquake struck eastern Japan on Thursday, the Meteorological Agency said.

No immediate casualties or damage were reported and no tsunami warnings were issued.

No further damage was reported at the stricken Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, which was crippled by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

The epicentre of the quake at 10.37 p.m. (7.07 p.m. IST) was off the east coast of Chiba Prefecture at a depth of 70 km, the agency said.

The March 11 magnitude 9 earthquake and the resultant tsunami left around 14,000 people dead and more than 13,000 missing.
