A white tiger, that had escaped from its enclosure during flooding, lies on a stretcher after it was shot dead by the police in Tbilisi, Georgia on Wednesday.

The Georgian police said a tiger that broke loose after severe flooding at a zoo here had killed one man and wounded another. The Interior Ministry of the ex-Soviet Republic said the police later killed the tiger, which was hiding in an abandoned factory.

Zoo officials had said on Tuesday that eight lions, all seven of the zoo’s tigers and at least two of its three jaguars were killed in the flooding caused by heavy rains over the weekend.
