China hopes Thursday’s talks between India and Pakistan will produce “substantive results,” officials said on Thursday.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said China favoured India and Pakistan to continue the dialogue progress, and resolve any outstanding differences through consultation.

“We hope dialogue and consultations between India and Pakistan can make substantive results, and we also hope momentum of such dialogue and co-operation can be kept,” Mr. Qin said at a press briefing.

He said both India and Pakistan were China’s “important neighbours” and the improvement and development of relations between the two countries was “not only conducive to peace and stability … of South Asia, but also to the whole region of Asia.”
