The government has suspended FTV channel's broadcast for nine days after it showed visuals of women with upper body nudity in a programme last year.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has prohibited transmission of the channel from 7 p.m. on March 12 until 7 p.m. on March 21, invoking provisions of the Cable Television Networks Act, 1995.

A Ministry statement said that a programme telecast on September 4, 2009 showed the offending visuals, which “were found to be obscene, denigrating women and not suitable for children and unrestricted public exhibition.”
