A salt pan worker, a still of a folk artiste, a bullfighter in action and frames of serene beauty of nature — all captured in lens and framed by students from across different States and countries were on display at Photothon ’18.

Organised by Alliance Francaise of Pondicherry and Acharya Group of Institutions, Photothon ’18 exhibited at least 110 photographs selected from 500 plus entries.

This year, the contest included photographs taken by special children in Puducherry.

The participants were from four Indian States, two Middle Eastern countries besides 64 specially abled children.

Culture as theme

Inaugurating the exhibition, Consul General of France in Puducherry Catherine Suard said that this edition was special because of its theme on culture and environment.

“This theme is closely linked to our work. Alliance Francaise, which has been in the forefront of promoting French culture and understanding other cultures, is the place to showcase the talents,” she said.

Arawindhan, MD, Achariya Group of Educational Institutions, said the idea behind the three-day exhibition was to draw the attention to the photographic skills of specially abled children along with people from all walks of life. “For the first time in Puducherry, we are curating the display of photographs shot by the specially abled children,” he said.

The exhibits include at least 77 photographs by specially abled children, two sent from Dubai and one from Abu Dhabi. The prizes for the best stills selected by Ms.Suard and Mr.Arawindhan would be announced on Sunday.
