Selling of firecrackers: Magistrate issues notification to grant licence

The District Magistrate has notified the initiation of the process to grant fresh licences for stocking and selling firecrackers for Deepavali which falls on October 29.

The licences in Form — LE5 will allow traders ‘to possess and sell 100 kg of fireworks of Class 7, Division 2, Sub-Division-2’ under the Explosives Rules, 2008. The application for grant of such licence will be available for the public, free of cost in the Office of the District Magistrate, Puducherry in respect of Puducherry region and in the office of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Yanam in respect of Yanam region.

It can also be downloaded from the website www.collectorate.py.gov.in. A copy of the ‘Notice’ in Tamil for information of the public is enclosed herewith for affixture of the same in the notice board of all the taluks and the office of the SDMs.

According to a press note, the following time schedule shall be followed strictly. Applications will be issued from August 17 to 31. The last date of receipt of duly filled in application is September 16 and the cut-off date for furnishing the inspection reports by the SDMs/DFO is September 30. The issue of licences will commence from October 3.

The provisions under Rule 83, 84 & 86 of the Explosives Rules, 2008 and the Explosive Act have to be strictly adhered to by the Inspecting Authorities while sending the report in respect of the applications for grant of license.

Report shall be sent as expeditiously as possible before September 30, said the release.
