Senior police officers from Puducherry and Tamil Nadu have decided to have frequent interaction to share information on bootleggers and criminals operating across the border.
This was decided at a joint meeting presided by Puducherry Director-General of Police S.K. Gautam and Tamil Nadu Additional Director-General of Police (Prohibition Enforcement Wing) Rajesh Das.
The meeting was held in the backdrop of several cases of smuggling of illicit liquor from Puducherry to Cuddalore and Villupuram districts in Tamil Nadu.
A senior police official said the two sides decided to work with each other to curb the smuggling of illicit liquor. Both sides have agreed to exchange information about bootleggers involved in the transportation of liquor and rectified spirit. The meeting decided to collate police records on criminals operating from both sides of the border and evolve a joint mechanism to conduct vehicle checks and raids along the border districts.
Superintendents of Police C. Vijayakumar (Cuddalore), Jayakumar (Villupuram), Senior Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Apoorva Gupta, Superintendents of Police (North) Rachna Singh and V.T. Abdul Raheem participated.
