Major political parties, including the ruling Congress and the Dravida Munntera Kazhagam, have decided to provide support for the bandh call given by political parties in Tamil Nadu on April 25 to highlight the problems of farmers, who were fighting in Delhi demanding waiver of farm loans and constitution of the Cauvery Management Board.
An all-party meeting convened by the DMK at its headquarters here on Monday decided to observe bandh on April 25 in support of Tamil Nadu farmers. The leaders at the meeting, convened by DMK South convener R. Siva, were of the view that farmers in the Union Territory were also facing a similar situation.
“The Central government has failed to declare Puducherry drought hit. Though a Central team toured the affected villages, the Union government did not provide any financial assistance to the Union Territory,” veteran CPI(M) leader T. Murugan said.
Others who attended the meeting included DMK leaders R.V. Janakiraman, S.P. Sivakumar, Congress leader Vinayagam, CPI leader R. Viswanathan, representatives from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and other political parties.
