Demanding a proper probe into the cause of the death of Ramkumar, a Plus-One student, studying at a private school at Perambalur on December 22, a group of political parties staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Monday.

The supporters and functionaries of various parties sucy as Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, the Communist Party of India, the Pattali Makkal Katchi, the Vidhuthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi participated.

District secretary of the CPI M.Sekar told this correspondent that the student, a native of Seplanatham in Cuddalore district, was reported dead by the school management and even before the parents could reach the school the body was sent to the Perambalur government hospital for post-mortem.

Voicing suspicion over the cause of death the agitated parents and relatives refused to accept the body.

Mr Sekar said that initially the police had initially registered a case of suspicious death but on persistent demand they booked a mathematics teacher.

Mr Sekar said that this was not a solitary incident that had occurred in the school. Hence, only a probe by appropriate authorities would bring out the truth.

The parties also demanded suitable action against the school management for its callous disregard to the safety of students, he said.
