The festival of colours spread joy across the coastal town as people, irrespective of age, religion, caste or creed immersed themselves in celebrations.
For the students of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer), holi celebrations were a two-day event. On Sunday night, they organised ‘Mohe Rang De’, a cultural night with 22 performances beginning from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
From dance, skit to karoke and band performances, both students and JIPMER faculty participated in the celebrations. “This event was organised by the students’ batch of 2015. On Monday morning, we celebrated gulaal, the festivity of hues, on Monday morning, which included a rain dance, kabaddi and tug of war,” said Jesbin Jacob, Joint Secretary of JIPMER Students’ Association.
Non-stop fete
Away from the main town of Puducherry on the beach of ECR Road, ‘Holi by the Beach’ organised at Ashok Beach Resort pulled in youngsters. The full-day event had eight hours of Bollywood and EDM (electronic dance music), rain dance, street food stalls, free thandai, bubble blast, holi stall, pan stall, free gifts, game stalls and live dhol.
However, it turned out to be a low-key affair for several members of the Jain community living in Puducherry. This year, they chose to celebrate the festival indoors unlike last year when eight couples in the Rainbow Colony joined as Yaarana family and organised the Holi celebration for the entire Jain community living in Rainbow Nagar on 45-feet Road.
