The district administration will conduct an offsite emergency drill on Thursday near Kalapet.
Deputy District Collector A. Vincent Rayar told The Hindu , “The drill is being conducted for the residents and official machinery to test preparedness to face any eventuality.”
Normally, an onsite emergency drill is conducted by any factory inside the premises and the offsite drill is conducted by the government machinery outside the periphery of the factory.
Mr. Rayar said that if there was leakage from the factory located near Ganapathichettikulam, it could not be controlled inside the premises itself. So, nine emergency teams will swing into action to render relief measures such as evacuation and provide medical care to the people who are in need of assistance.
The drill will be conducted between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Ganapathichettikulam, tsunami quarters and Pillaiyarchavadi.
Villagers and school students have been sensitised to the drill. Mr. Rayar has appealed to the public not to panic during the exercise.
It will be held between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Ganapathichettikulam, tsunami quarters and Pillaiyarchavadi
