Health staff resort to flash strike in Puducherry

November 20, 2014 10:37 am | Updated 10:38 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Around 500 staff of the Government General Hospital on Wednesday resorted to a flash strike demanding settlement of arrears towards patient care allowance. They have been demanding enhancement of the allowance as per recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission.

As the government has not come forward to disburse the amount, the staff conducted a sit-in protest inside the Government General Hospital and raised slogans.

Patients in some sections were affected as Group C and D employees, staff in lab, operation theatres, X-ray Department, ward and kitchen abstained from work from 7.30 am on Thursday. Later, Medical Superintendent K. Mohankumar held a meeting with them and following an assurance, they resumed work by 11.45 am.

M. Anbuselvan, Heath Employees Central Federation, said, “There was no cadre restructuring for the past three decades and patient care allowance was not disbursed since 2008. We were not paid enhanced washing allowance.”
