The Union government will soon appoint a full-fledged Lieutenant Governor for Puducherry, Union Minister of State for Surface Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan told reporters here on Tuesday.
When asked about Puducherry’s demand for Statehood, he said that all aspects had to be studied including whether Puducherry will be able to be sustain itself.
No decision about allegations
When asked about the allegations made by the former Lieutenant Governor against the Puducherry Government, he said that the Centre will not take any decision in haste.
He said that the Narendra Modi-led BJP Government had scaled greater heights within a year of coming to power and Mr. Modi’s ambitious Jan Dhan Yojana scheme had also been lauded by the World Bank. Foreign governments had also changed their perception of India.
Mr. Radhakrishnan said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Sri Lanka had made it clear that Sri Lanka should not only ensure the rights of Tamils but also treat them with dignity.
