Catherine Surad, Consul General of France in Puducherry, released a book ‘Writing and Publishing a Scientific Research Paper’ edited by Dr. Subhash Chandra Parija, eminent microbiologist and director, Jipmer, and Dr. Vikram Kate, professor and HoD of surgery.
“Parija is a prodigious writer in his chosen speciality. From the earliest civilisations of mankind there have been records, images, sculptures, sounds and tastes. From stones to wood, to cloth and to paper it was a long journey indeed. But why record at all? When experiences are recorded for the future, the future generation can avoid the pitfalls and thus progress faster,” Ms. Surad said.
Parija lauded
She added that today, records are very exclusive and for specific targets. “In today’s world, many who have scaled great heights are not keen on showing the way to others. Here Dr. Parija is certainly different. Having attained several doctorates has not led him to just cherish his laurels; he has decided to pen this book which is a step-by-step guide to research students. A research student is generally guided by his professor personally. This book is an eminent replacement of this guide in as much as it guides the scholar step by step in research methodology with special reference to medical field,” she said.
Earlier, Dr. Parija briefed about the history and collaboration between Jipmer and France.
Being one of the authors of the book, he emphasised documenting the work of research and innovations that were carried out by every individuals. It was the responsibility of the researcher to carry his work to future generations in the form of books and articles.
Dr. Kate, one of the authors of the book, Ashok Sankar Badhe, medical superintendent, R.P. Swaminathan, dean academics, Vishnu Bhat, dean research, senior faculty members, research scholars and students participated.
