The ruling AINRC has extended support to the bandh announced by farmers in Tamil Nadu and Karaikal on March 28 over the Mekadatu dam row.

In a release, AINRC general secretary V. Bhalan said that Karnataka government’s plan to construct a dam across the Cauvery River was against the final award of the Cauvery Tribunal.

The construction of the dam would severely affect Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry. The UT administration stands united with Tamil Nadu on the issue and strongly condemns Karnataka’s decision to construct a dam.

He expressed his party’s support to the bandh in Tamil Nadu and Karaikal. Meanwhile, the opposition Congress has also extended support to the bandh called by farmers associations protesting against Karnataka and the centre over the dam issue.
