Two people from Navi Mumbai drowned in a beach at Murud around 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Abhishek Mhatre (32) from Navhde in Panvel and his relatives Pooja Shetty (28) and Rohini Katare (28) from Koparkhairane had gone to a farmhouse in Murud on Sunday morning.

Around 6.30 p.m., the trio went to Kashid beach. While Mr. Mhatre and Ms. Shetty entered the water for a swim, Ms. Katare stayed back at the shore.

Around 7 p.m., Ms. Katare realised that her relatives were drowning and raised an alarm.

“Locals pulled the duo out and took them to Borali primary health care centre where they were declared dead,” an officer from Murud police station said.

An accidental death case has been registered with Murud police and further investigations are under way.
