Pant Nagar police on Saturday arrested a junior college professor in Ghatkopar for allegedly seeking sexual favours from a 16-year-old student in his class.
The police said on March 8, the Class XI student went to her class teacher’s office after she failed in one of the subjects in a recent exam. The teacher allegedly told the student that if she gave him a kiss, he would increase her marks and ensure she passes the subject.
The police said that the student refused the teacher’s advances and left his office. The police said that the student did not immediately tell anyone about the incident. A police official said, “The student, however, was disturbed for several days and ultimately confided in her parents. They decided to approach the police after after consulting a few friends.”
Pant Nagar police, after recording the student’s statement, sent a team to the junior college and picked up the teacher for inquiries. Meanwhile, the news of the incident spread and a group of parents gathered at Pant Nagar police station. The group dispersed after the police assured them that swift action would be taken against the professor.
Akhilesh Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VII), said, “We have arrested the accused and booked him for outraging a woman’s modesty under the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.”
