Party to approach the court with comprehensive list of missing names

The Shiv Sena has decided to take up in court the issue of missing names on the voters list for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls. The party has asked people who could not vote to register their complaint at 1800228595 .

Anil Desai, a Rajya Sabha MP of the party, said, “The people who could not vote in the BMC polls had voted in the 2014 Assembly polls. The booth-wise voters list were announced too late for people to crosscheck their names on them.

The Sena had lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission (SEC) even before the polls. Even voters who participated the SEC’s voting awareness campaigns also could not exercise their franchise.”

‘To file fresh complaint’

Mr. Desai said once a list of missing names is collected, another complaint will be lodged with the SEC and then the party would approach the court.

He said the names of over 11 lakh voters had gone missing from the voters list. Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in his first press conference after the poll results were declared said the ‘case of the missing voters had to be probed.’

The SEC has maintained that the lists used by it were provided by the Central Election Commission. An SEC officer said, “Similar lists were used in the Assembly polls and Lok Sabha polls. We systematically keep updating the lists.”
