Three killed in Mumbai building collapse, many trapped

Three people were reported dead, and four others injured when a three-storey residential building collapsed in 14th Lane, Kamathipura in South Central Mumbai on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Disaster Management Cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the collapse occurred at 2.08 pm when the Pathar building collapsed like a pack of cards, trapping several people in the debris. “The building is built by the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority, and was under repairs,” said an cell official.

The fire brigade rushed eight fire engines and ambulances to the spot and were engaged in the rescue work. A total of 10 people were pulled out of the debris. They were rushed to the nearby JJ Hospital and Nair Hospitals. One of the rescued was reported dead at Nair Hospitals, and two others at JJ Hospital, officials said.
