Mumbai: The childhood friend of Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal, one of the handlers in the 26/11 attacks, told the special National Investigation Agency court on Monday that he recognised the voice of Mr. Jundal, lodged in the Arthur Road Jail.

A 28-minute recording is a conversation that took place in a control room in Pakistan from where Mr. Jundal, who is from Beed district, was allegedly giving instructions to the terrorists in the middle of the attack.

On February 2, 2018, a relative deposed via videoconferencing and recognised Mr. Jundal’s voice, and said he had known him since his childhood. He had also said that words like ‘prashasan’ and ‘yuvak’, and pronunciation of some words used by the witness were similar to those from Beed.

Meanwhile, the defence raised issues about the transcript being unclear, and said it cannot be relied upon. The friend’s cross-examination will continue on April 10 when the court will also hear an application over travel documents of Mr. Jundal, which the Delhi Police’s special cell has claimed privilege over.
