Cop plans to teach meditation

Navi Mumbai: Alarmed by the suicide of a constable due to domestic issues, senior police inspector Raju Vanjari, attached to Mora coastal police station, has planned to teach meditation to the staff and residents.

Meditation is different from what many believe, he said. “It has been years since I have been doing sahaj marg meditation for positivity and joy. An alcoholic and even a drug addict can get rid of their habits with regular meditation which will solve most of their domestic issues.”

Mr. Vanjari plans to organise a meditation session on the station premises once Navratri and Dussehra bandobasts are over. “I also plan to invite some of the people who have mastered the art. It will be a free session and depending on the response, I will conduct more such sessions.”

At around 11.30 p.m. on Friday, constable Namdev Hari Palave (30), a resident of the police colony in Uran, took the extreme step following a quarrel with his wife. Mr. Palave is survived by his wife, who is seven months pregnant, and a three-year-old daughter.

Mr. Vanjari said, “The couple used to have frequent fights, but no one ever expected that he would take such a step. Once his wife comes back, we will find about her education, and if possible, will help her get employment somewhere. She herself had attempted suicide twice.”
