Navi Mumbai: An Assistant Planner with CIDCO’s Planning Department has been booked for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹6.5 lakh from a property developer. The Navi Mumbai unit of the State Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which registered the case against Priyadarshan Waghmare, said the bribe was for allotting a well-located plot under CIDCO’s 12.5% gaothan scheme.
The complainant in the case, a property developer, had approached Mr. Waghmare for the plot.
An ACB officer said, “Mr. Waghmare had demanded ₹7 lakh for allotting plot number 20 in Sector 20, Roadpali. The demand was made on August 10, 2017 and on September 8, he paid ₹6.50 lakh. Later the complainant found the plot had already been allotted to someone else in 2008.”
When he brought it to Mr. Waghmare’s notice, the latter returned ₹2.5 lakh. “The complainant approached CIDCO’s vigilance department, which conducted a probe and found evidence against Mr. Waghmare and then informed us,” the officer added. On Saturday, the ACB registered a case at CBD Belapur police station against Mr Waghmare under IPC Section 420 (cheating) and relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
