APMC police arrested a builder on Thursday for cheating 16 people of around ₹6 crore by promising flats.

Jignesh Goradiya (36), a resident of Vashi, was arrested when he was planning to leave the country. His wife, Pankti, an accused in the case, is absconding, said the police. Goradiya ran a posh office, Yushan Realty Ventures, in Satra Plaza in Sector 19 in Vashi, along with his wife. He promised buyers flats at his mega project in Ulwe named Maple Ivy.

Construction of the 14-storeyed building, which was supposed to be ready by March 2017, was stalled in 2016. “About 13 people approached us and claimed of being cheated of ₹5.22 crore. After the arrest, two more approached us and now the amount is ₹6 crore. We expect more people to come forward, ” said Assistant Police Inspector Ram Chopade from APMC Police Station.
