Prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, Indrani Mukerjea, on Tuesday today told a special CBI court that she was not levelling any allegations against her husband and co-accused Peter Mukerjea. This u-turn comes days after she said her husband may have played a role in her daughter’s disappearance.

Emotional stress

Appearing for Indrani, Advocate Sudeep Pasbola said in court that his client only wants call detail records (CDR) of Peter Mukerjea. Referring to the letter by Indrani on November 11, Mr. Pasbola said, “I would like to dispel any notion that it is made with any malice, mala fide intention or ulterior motive. We are only praying for collection of evidence which will help the defence.” He also said, Indrani wants justice for her daughter, she may be under emotional stress.

In the November 11 letter, Indrani had said, “I have strong reasons to believe that Peter, with the assistance of the other persons, including Shyamvar, may have conspired and abducted my daughter, Sheena Bora in 2012 and made her untraceable and subsequently destroyed evidence.”

CBI advocate Bharat Badami said the agency has already called for the CDRs of accused Indrani, her ex-husband Sanjiv Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai. He said, “We are not making any accusation against Peter. The personal allegations are inadvertent in the application,” and requested the court that the plea be decided on merit.

On Monday, Peter’s lawyer Advocate Srikant Shivade had opposed the application and said Indrani is portraying herself as a victim and if Indrani has strong reasons to believe that he has conspired to abduct Sheena, she should have said that in the investigations. Indrani, he said, is just using the media to mislead the court and portray herself as a victim. The court is likely to pass an order on her application on December 5. (With PTI inputs)
