The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking on Thursday filed a police complaint against actor Rati Agnihotri and her husband Anil Virwani for alleged electricity theft amounting to Rs. 46.97 lakh.

Officials with the Worli police confirmed that the husband and wife had been booked under Section 135 of the Electricity Act. “The couple stays in the Sterling building near the Worli Sea Face. The complaint, which was registered by sub engineer Balasaheb Kamble states that they had installed a three-phase meter for their house but showed only a single-phase meter in official records to pay reduced bills,” said an officer with the Worli police.

The BEST learned about the theft after its vigilance department made inquiries and submitted a report.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Padwal (Zone III) confirmed that an FIR had been registered and added that inquiries were on into the BEST’s complaint.

The police will soon be calling both Ms. Agnihotri and Mr. Virwani to the police station for inquiries, and will be conducting investigations based on the reports of the electricity readings submitted by the BEST.
