A 15-year-old girl committed suicide at her house in Thane on Thursday morning. Kapurbawdi police said Rachna Shinge lived with her parents and younger brother in Balkum in Thane (West) and she was alone at home at the time of the incident.
At 11 a.m. on Thursday, when her uncle came to visit her, he found the front door of the house open. On entering the house, he found that Rachna had killed herself. With the help of a few neighbours, he rushed her to Thane Civil Hospital, where she was declared dead before admission. Senior Police Inspector V.G. Darekar said, “We searched the house, but did not find any suicide note. Her parents told us that she was under a lot of stress as her SSC board examinations were scheduled for March this year.”
Rachna was a Class X student of Dr. Bedekar Vidya Mandir in Naupada and the police will make inquiries with her classmates and friends to find out if Rachna was suffering from exam-related stress. Her cell phone is also being examined and people she last spoke to will be contacted.
An officer with Kapurbawdi police said, “Rachna’s parents are in a complete state of shock and are unwilling to interact with anyone.” The police have registered an accidental death report.
