The city Corporation has sought the cooperation of the public to carry out its comprehensive pre-monsoon cleaning programme titled ‘Mazhayethum Munpe.’

Mayor A.K. Premajam will inaugurate the programme at Palayam bus stand at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

A meeting of the health inspectors of the Corporation held on Monday decided to hold extensive cleaning sessions in all health circles from May 27 to 30.

The respective ward councillors would lead the programme, sources said.

Participation sought

The meeting sought the participation of all trade unions, the commercial establishments, Kudumbasree units, residents’ associations, schools, colleges, and the public in the cleaning activity.

The infrastructure available with the Corporation such as earthmovers and lorries would be made available for the programme.

A grand cleaning programme of the Corporation office would be held on May 29, the sources said.

A complete ban had been imposed on food items put in brine. If detected, such items would be confiscated and the sellers fined.

The school authorities had been directed to make clean drinking water available to students. They should also prevent water stagnation on the school premises, sources said.

Apartment complexes and villas should ensure that no waste water flowed into canals or other freshwater bodies.

All such residential complexes should construct waste pits on their premises. Violations would entail a huge fine. The merchant outlets had been asked to cooperate to end the use of plastic bags. The residents associations should take the lead in such activities, the meeting said.

The Corporation would observe World Environment Day (June 6) by planting 8,000 saplings in the city as part of its ‘One man — one tree’ project. The project would be inaugurated on the Mofusil bus stand premises on June 5.
