Odisha handicrafts fair begins in Kozhikode

Odisha Grameen Mela, an exhibition-cum-sale of handicraft and handloom products from all parts of the country, began at Jaya Auditorium in Tali on Thursday. Traditional weavers, artisans and craftsmen have displayed their products at the fair without interference of middlemen.

The handloom section features bed sheets, pure silk dress materials, saris from Odisha, Bengal, Lucknow and Kashmir, readymade kurtis with zari work, kantha work, Kutchwork and other traditional embroidery, Ikat dress materials and saris, Chanderi dress materials and saris besides crocheted clothes. The handicraft section has ceramic ware, doormats, wooden dolls, jewellery made of precious stones, brass, silver and gold plated, with Meenakari work, terracotta, leather products, wooden articles, bags, footwear, wall hangings, dish mats, jute products and Lac bangles from Jaipur.

The exhibition was inaugurated by R.K.Mishra, managing director of DCH Handicrafts, Bhubaneswar. The fair, organised with the support of the Union government, offers 10 per cent rebate on handicrafts and 20 per cent rebate on handlooms. The exhibition will conclude on July 6.
