New courses to be sanctioned to government college

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that new courses will be sanctioned to Government Arts and Science College, Meenchanda, next year.

Inaugurating the concluding ceremony of a year-long golden jubilee of the college here on Monday, Mr. Chandy said that the next Cabinet meeting would favourably consider the demand from the college authorities to create five fresh posts for the newly constructed women’s hostel at the college.

The Chief Minister promised to bring to the attention of Finance Minister K.M. Mani the need for granting fund for the construction of a golden jubilee block on the college campus. A decision on it would be taken soon.

Mr. Chandy, who emphasised the importance of introducing measures to attract students to the higher education sector in the State, said the government was going ahead with its plans to convert Kerala into a higher education destination in the country. Minister for Panchayats and Social Justice M.K. Muneer presided.

Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb delivered the keynote address.

Principal P.M. Raghavan, Corporation education standing committee chairperson Usha Devi, and District Congress Committee president K.C. Abu spoke.

Mr. Raghavan handed over a memorandum, comprising various emergency development needs of the college, to the Chief Minister on the occasion.
