The United Democratic Front (UDF) retained all the three seats in the grama panchayat by-elections, the results of which were declared on Friday.
K.C. Kunhabdulla of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) won the Kulakkandam ward of the Changaroth grama panchyat by defeating his nearest rival Kizhakkayil Balan of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) by a margin of 154 votes.
Other candidatesMr. Kunhabdulla got 520 votes and Mr. Balan, 366. Fahiz Kovuppurath, an Independent, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate N.M. Ravindran got 147 and 57 votes respectively.
The IUML won the Pullavoor ward of Chathamangalam. Party nominee Pilathottathil Abdurehiman Kutty defeated his nearest rival Jafer, an Independent, supported by the Left Democratic Front (LDF), by a margin of 302 votes. K.P. Sajeesh of the BJP and Athrimankutty Puliyarammal, an Independent, got 56 and 3 votes respectively.
Congress nominee Prabhita Cherothu won from the reserved Scheduled Caste ward of Parambath in Thalakulathur grama panchayat. She defeated P. Princy of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] by a margin of 33 votes. BJP candidate Shiny Kalathil got 68. The seat was previously held by Socialist Janata (Democratic).
