The five-day-long ‘Kadalirambam’ coastal protest march led by District Congress Committee president T. Siddique to highlight post-Ockhi governmental ‘failures’ concluded at Beypore on Wednesday evening.
The protest march, aimed at highlighting the ‘failures’ of the BJP-led government at the Centre and the CPI(M)-led government in the State in effectively dealing with Cyclone Ockhi that pounded the Kerala coast, commenced from Kunhippally at Azhiyur on January 20.
Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the march while All India Congress Committee secretary A. Chella Kumar inaugurated the concluding session.
The march was accorded rousing receptions by Congress workers at various places including Kappad and Kothi Beach.
Speaking at a public meeting, Mr. Kumar accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of not addressing the issues of the Cyclone Ockhi- hit fishing community. It was deplorable that he even refused to visit the victims soon after the incident, he said.
In his address, Karnataka Minister for Food and Public Distribution U.T. Khader said that Communist parties should not forget that the Kerala Chief Minister was given protection to speak at a public meeting in Congress-ruled State of Karnataka.
M.K. Raghavan, MP, delivered the keynote address.
