Unidentified miscreants set afire the office of corporation councillor Navya Haridas at Nellikavu on Monday. Several files and office equipment were gutted in the incident.
The office was attacked within a week after its formal opening to directly deal with the complaints of people from ward number 69. In her complaint, the BJP councillor said around 100 applications submitted by various individuals from her ward for settling their grievances were lost in the incident.
Following the councillor’s petition, experts from the Finger Print Bureau and dog squad collected evidence from the spot. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran and Deputy Mayor Meera Darshak also visited the office.
BJP leaders from the area said the office was opened with a mission to cater to the needs of all citizens from the area irrespective of their party affiliations. “The office was attacked with an aim to destroy all the files,” they said.
Police officials from the Nadakkavu station said the attackers entered the building after breaking the shutter lock. “The incident was reported to us around 6.30 a.m. We are yet to confirm any political motive behind the attack, they said.
