Joseph Emmanuel, the Secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has advised students against switching to State Board after Class X as the Senior Secondary Programme is built in to school education.
“If parents want to switch to the State Board or any other Board, they should do so well in advance when the child is in lower classes,” Mr. Emmanuel said, while replying to a question on the handicap being faced by CBSE students when they seek higher secondary admission in State Board schools due to lower weightage accorded to them.
Principals’ meet
The CBSE Secretary was in the city to participate in a capacity building programme for principals of 80 CBSE schools in northern Kerala held at Silver Hills Public School here on Saturday.
Regarding the recently issued Child Rights Act order not to unduly burden children and to ensure that Saturday is a holiday for classes till V, he said, “CBSE is yet to decide on the question of Saturday holiday. However, the law of the land should be followed without diluting the CBSE norm of 220 mandatory working days for Classes I to XII.”
Mr. Emmanuel said all schools were advised to follow NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) prescribed textbooks from Classes I to VIII.
“Any other books should be considered only if they are fully in conformity with NCERT pattern,” he said while replying to a query on different schools following different textbooks from Classes I to VIII.
Renewal of affiliation
Regarding the delay in receiving affiliation renewal orders in spite of schools submitting all documents, he said in all eligible cases, renewal orders would be issued in a couple of months. “All fresh applications for renewal received by the month of January will be considered during the academic year 2018-19.”
The CBSE would look into matters such as delay in receiving Class X and Class XII Board Exam certificates, he said.
