The bodies of the two migrant labourers who died as earth caved in at a work site near Chinthavalappu in the city on Thursday were sent to their hometown in Bihar in two separate ambulances on Friday. Some of their relatives working in the city left for Bihar, accompanying the bodies.

Labour Department officials said the ambulance expenses were borne by the private construction company that hired the labourers. They had also promised a reasonable compensation for the families of the victims, said the officials.

District Labour Officer (Enforcement) Babu Kanappally said efforts would be taken to get a reasonable compensation for the victims’ families from the State government’s fund. “We are considering the possibility of availing the benefits declared under the Awaz health insurance scheme,” he added.
